FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can anybody be hypnotised ?
Yes, anyone can be hypnotised provided they want to be, and are able to concentrate. Although children are excellent hypnotic subjects, extremely young children should not be hypnotised. Neither should people with certain mental disabilities. You cannot be hypnotised against your will and despite being extremely relaxed, you remain in control of your own faculties at all times.
Are you in control of my mind?
No! It’s important to remember: ALL HYPNOSIS IS SELF HYPNOSIS. It is a naturally occurring state that we all go into many times during the day. It’s just a deep state of relaxation and focused attention. So you are in the driving seat, and it’s the job of your therapist to guide you to relax so that you can easily access your subconscious mind, re-organise your thoughts. Your mind is always your own and you may reject any suggestion you deem inappropriate at any time.
So how does it work?
When you are in this deeply relaxed state, your ‘critical’ conscious mind is at rest, allowing access to the subconscious which accepts all positive suggestions it receives for your benefit. Afterwards, you will feel more relaxed than usual, and you will feel differently about your issues. Practice makes perfect, so you will find that every session of hypnosis is at least ten times more powerful that the previous one.
What does it feel like?
You will be very relaxed but not sleepy, alert yet deeply rested. You will be in a world of your own, almost in a daydream, yet you will hear everything around you, every day noises and of course your therapist’s voice, perhaps gentle background music.
You will drift into deeper and lighter states throughout , yet when you emerge you will feel refreshed and still deeply relaxed.
How many sessions will I need ?
To stop smoking no more than two or three sessions will be required.
Otherwise, it depends upon several factors dependent upon the problem, its depth, and your own motivation to co-operate. Unlike other therapies, hypnotherapy does tend to be fast-track and Jo’s aim is to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. Progress is charted, so you can evaluate your needs as required.
How long does a session last ?
Each session lasts approximately 1 hour.
How often will I need to see the hypnotherapist ?
This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made but usually it’s once a week. Some longer term treatments take place fortnightly, and ‘booster’ sessions can be once a month. This is reviewed during initial consultation.
How Much Does It Cost?
Each session costs £60. A minimum of twenty four hours notice is required to cancel or rearrange appointments, otherwise a 50% cancellation fee may be charged.
